kubera

Chatan is a 5th-stage rakshasa of the Kinnara clan, in N23 he crossed over to the human realm to aid Sagara's plan for the resurrection of Ananta.

Appearance

Early Stage

Human Form

In his early stage, Chatan appeared to have short hair with his sura trait being his long tail and spikes on his back. He appears to be wearing an oversized jacket with a hood.

5th Stage

Human Form

Chatan is a tall man with long dark pink hair and eyes. On the top of his head, he wears a pink mask that covers the top of his forehead and ends with pointy teeth stretching over his eyes. The mask includes sharp upturned horns. He wears a long dark pink coat, with long sleeves and no ornamentation whatsoever. He has dark loose pants.

Sura Form

When taking sura form, the mask on his head extends to cover his whole face like a helmet.[1] As a 5th stage, his sura form takes a humanoid appearance. Chatan resembles a giant knight, with his entire body being covered by what seems to be an armor.[2]

Personality

Chatan is highly stoic, maintaining an unshakable calm as he quietly and persistently fulfills his duties. He does not waste words, limiting his statements to those with meaningful or informative weight. Yet, in this same matter-of-fact manner, he instinctively acts to protect those he believes he should.[3]

He has stated that he refuses to commit murder,[1] with Kamadu stating that Chatan has the skills to control his strength to prevent killing when needed[4], as seen when facing Ran. He also appears to despise his brother, Shess, only assisting him to appease their mother.[5] His loyalty to Airavata is unwavering—he was willing to risk his life against Vayu solely to uphold her orders.[6]

Skills and Abilities

As a 5th stage rakshasa, Chatan is an extremely powerful rakshasa.[3] However, he is stated by Ran to be weaker than another 5th stage he had faced in the past.[7] According to Kamadu, Chatan specializes in Mental Transcendentals but remains skilled in close combat. He is particularly known to have great physical defense and surafication speed.[4]

Physical Skills

Momentary Partial Sura Form: Chatan is capable of surafying specific limbs that are detached from his body, and he launch them at his opponents. Yuta noted that these attack were particularly fast.[8]

Transcendental Skills

Mental: He possesses powerful mental transcendentals that allow him to easily control most humans.[1]

Teleportation: He also has a skill that allows him to teleport others around.[9] These portals seem to be undetectable even to a 5th zen god.[10] They seem to be connected to the Earth, meaning they can only lead to a place on the same planet according to Vayu

Limb Control: Chatan can use a transcendental that allows him to hide people inside his detached limbs. While in the 'limb', the people inside cannot be perceived by outsiders, but they can see what is happening out of the space.[11]

Plot

History

Chatan is one of the many children of Airavata and a younger brother to Shess. He and Shess do not have a positive relationship and Chatan wishes Shess to die, yet protects him because Shess is favored by their mother.[5] Chatan developed to 5th stage long before Shess, who is stuck in his 4th stage.

Tatia, Sona, Kadru, Chatan and Pingara

Tatia, Sona, Kadru, Chatan and Pingara

(1) Chatan came to the human realm along with the suras Sona, Tatia, and Kadru as an answer to Sagara's call for allies.[12]He then sent off his sura allies to various cities using portals and stayed with Sagara awaiting further orders.

Chapter 48: Separation

Fighting Lorraine

Fighting Lorraine

(14) He accompanied Sagara to Mistyshore when she decided to pick up the candidates from there. He used a mental transcendental to get a magician to sponsor them and allow them to enter the city. (16) Upon learning where to look for the children, he and Sagara split up. (17) He controls Eline Haias in order to lead Anne Sairofe out of the city, but is intercepted by Lorraine Rartia.

(20) After Lorraine Rartia uses Bhavati Brahma on him, Chatan takes sura form and helps Sagara escape from her encounter with Brilith Ruin.

Facing Ran and Leny

Facing Ran and Leny

(22) Chatan returns to the suras waiting near Kalibloom on his own and with his arm missing. After Taksaka passes around them, seemingly not giving them notice, Chatan sends Riagara and Pingara back to Sagara in Mistyshore (23)(26) and then proceeds to enter Kalibloom, where he kidnaps Leny with the intention of using her for the resurrection of Ananta, despite the close relationship his brother, Shess, has to this girl. Shess asks Chatan to take a different candidate, not Leny. Chatan responds that if Shess brings him another candidate, he would return Leny to Shess, otherwise, she will be used for Ananta's resurrection.

Shess attempts to attack Chatan, but before he can take sura form, Chatan squashes him with a transcendental. Chatan then tells Shess that he went easy on him and warns him that other brothers of theirs also seek to get back at Shess.

(30) Then Chatan waits for the suras who went to gather the godly items of god Kubera to return. As he regains his arm, he explains that he used a transcendental to hide Riagara and Pingara in Sagara's vicinity. After Sagara and Riagara return, he closes the portal to Mistyshore, and finally opens a portal to Rindhallow, allowing Sona and Tatia to return.[13]

Chapter 49: The Golden Knight 2

After the Golden Knight

After the Golden Knight

(4) Sona and Tatia return through Chatan's portal and learn that despite having disobeyed Sagara's orders at Mistyshore, Chatan was not blamed because his ability to open portals is too valuable.

(6) Based on "his" instructions, Sagara, Chatan, and Tatia arrive at some snowy mountains. Not seeing anything at first, Chatan voices doubts in "his" ability as "he" is not in his normal state anymore.

The group spots a cloaked figure in the distance. Sagara orders Tatia to retrieve the bracelet, warning her that the girl is a skilled magician. Tatia attacks Asha, blocking her mouth to prevent her from using magic, but Asha grows a golden mouth out of her hand and casts Hoti Indra Bhavati Marut.

Injured by Asha

Injured by Asha

(7) Tatia and Chatan get sliced apart by the spell. Sagara remains unharmed because she used her King of Toxic Mist transcendental. She comments on Asha's strength and the fact that Chatan was injured by the spell. Chatan claims he did not dodge since he knew he could regenerate and asks why Sagara did not warn him and Tatia if she knew what Asha was capable of.

Sagara reveals that she harbors bitterness against the two of them because they come from clans that did nothing to help when Ananta was dying. Chatan feels that she should treat the few allies she has better than this, but Sagara continues that she resents hypocrites who refuse to fully commit themselves to a task and get their hands dirty. Just like Gandharva seven years ago, like Tatia when she did not go for the kill just a while ago, and like Chatan, who disobeyed her orders in Mistyshore. They would do well to realize that there is no place for such mercy in this fight.

(10) Tatia apologizes for failing to retrieve the bracelet because Maruna had unexpectedly appeared, but Sagara does not seem to mind. When Chatan points this out, Sagara reveals that she can afford this kind of confidence because the inevitable ending she saw in the records will happen no matter the route that is taken, so having failed to see specific oracles will not matter.

Chapter 50: The Weight of Time

(1) As Ran and Shess discuss Leny's kidnapping, Ran comments that Chatan is weaker than another 5th stage he fought.

(2) In this timeline, Chatan fought against Agni in his full sura form and lost, resulting in his death.

Chapter 55: Kubera and Kubera

Chatan and Vasuki face the gods

Chatan and Vasuki face the gods

(16) Humans begin to fight each other in Atera, being controlled by Chatan's mental transcendentals. As Agni, Taksaka, and Vayu track the culprit, they run into a red teleportation portal on the floor.

(17) Tatia mentions that Sagara has many allies including Chatan, and that he is not the strongest one among them. At the same moment, Vayu and Agni cross the portal, leading them to Chatan and Vasuki waiting for them.

(20) Once the battle with the gods ends, Chatan voices his surprise at Vasuki's strategy as he could have killed them without using so much power, and that Sagara might not be happy with the results if the gods' offer wasn't good enough. (29) The pair then reunites with Sagara at the South Pole where a portal from the sura realm has been opened, with Chatan staring at it intensely.

Chapter 56: The Finite

(1) Still at the South Pole, Airavata has fallen from the portal and is laying unconscious in front of Chatan, Sagara, and Vasuki. The latter comments on Chatan having been staring at the portal, meaning he must have sensed his mother due to their shared bloodline.

Chapter 57: N20

Chatan attacks Yuta

Chatan attacks Yuta

(4) During the year N20 in the Sura Realm, Chatan welcomes Kamadu and Yuta at the Kinnara clan stronghold. Kamadu introduces the rakshasas to each other, introducing Yuta as Jatayu, someone that Airavata has an interest in. Kamadu warns Yuta that Chatan will attack him if he shows any signs of suspicious behavior before leaving to fetch Airavata. Once he is gone, Chatan partially surafies and attacks Yuta. The attack misses, with Yuta stating that Kamadu had instructed them to wait where they were, but Chatan retorts that they weren't told to stay still.

Chatan and Yuta continue to fight

Chatan and Yuta continue to fight

(5) Chatan continues to attack Yuta, using momentary partial sura form to launch his limbs at him. Yuta questions why Chatan isn't taking full sura form, to which the Kinnara responds that he doesn't need to—especially if Yuta himself isn’t. Chatan partially surafies his hair and launches it to trap Yuta, warning him to fight properly. Yuta replies that pushing him too hard would be a mistake, which Chatan interprets as Yuta worrying about his opponent. Offended at the idea that a 5th Stage warrior would need to go all out against a 3rd Stage, Chatan calls it the arrogance of Garuda's bloodline.

In response, Yuta simply states that he is not kind enough to worry about someone showing him hostility—his real concern is the damage he might cause to the Kinnara clan. His statement is followed by an attack from the environment itself, forcing Chatan to defend himself by projecting his sura limbs around his body. He notes that the environment is acting as an extension of Yuta and realizes that mid-rank Nastikas and 5th Stage Rakshasas with slow surafication would be defenseless against such an attack.

As they both prepare to fight once again, Airavata arrives and interrupts the battle. She calls for Chatan to stop, apologizing on his behalf to Yuta and explaining that the attack was simply provoked by jealousy. Chatan returns to his human form, looking away as Yuta departs with Airavata and Kamadu.

(9) Later, while Yuta is being held prisoner by the Kinnara clan, he asks Airavata why they are using such strong measures against him despite his cooperation. Airavata reveals that just before Yuta’s arrival, Taraka had attacked the place where their Rakshasas are trained, killing one hundred clanmates, two Nastikas, and several promising children before Chatan arrived and managed to repel her.

As Airavata leaves the place where Yuta is imprisoned, she finds Chatan waiting outside. She instructs her son to stand guard, which he agrees to before informing her that members of the Asura Clan have arrived.

Chatan faces Vayu

(11) As Vayu and Leez make their way through the Kinnara Clan stronghold, they arrive at the passage where Chatan is standing guard over Yuta. Chatan warns Vayu that exploiting his knowledge of the stronghold in this way could damage mutual trust in the future. However, since Airavata had sent a message summoning Leez to see Yuta, Chatan agrees to let her through alone, willing to risk his life to face the wind god if they didn't agree to his terms.

Vayu prepares to fight, but Leez stops him, agreeing to go ahead alone. As she proceeds, Chatan asks Vayu if they truly need to fight. Vayu responds that if Chatan is afraid of dying, he can simply step aside. Instead of answering, Chatan turns his attention to a disturbance nearby—Taksaka had just killed one of the Asura Clan’s 5th Stage Rakshasas.

Chatan was defeated by Vayu

Chatan was defeated by Vayu

(12) Kamadu arrives to deal with the situation, only to find Chatan lying on the ground, defeated. When Kamadu asks if he was beaten by Ravana's weakest units, Chatan explains that he faced Vayu and that Ravana's clones took advantage of the opportunity to slip in. The Nastika remarks that it was stubborn of Chatan to challenge Vayu, calling him rigid for following Airavata's orders so strictly. Kamadu then asks if Chatan intends to stop him as well, to which Chatan replies that he wouldn’t dare, instead welcoming his father through.

Chapter 58: King of Snakes

(4) Back in N23, a month after the collapse of the Sura Realm, Chatan has joined forces with his mother and brother to prevent the resurrection of Ananta. As they stand near the resurrection site, Chatan observes that the gods have found Ananta's body, realizing that he will soon be revived in a new vessel.

As Shess grows distraught at the thought of Leny dying, Airavata chastises him, pointing out that even with Chatan’s help, the two of them failed to defeat Ran and were therefore unable to secure another candidate for the resurrection.

Ananta attacks Chatan

Ananta attacks Chatan

(28) With Ananta newly resurrected, Chatan watches alongside Airavata and Shess as the continent is being absorbed. He suggests that they leave before it is absorbed any further, but is interrupted by Ran’s arrival. Chatan immediately assumes a defensive stance, using a partial sura form to protect his mother, and continues to do so when Indra arrives and proposes that they work together to kill Ananta.

(29) As part of the plan to kill Ananta, Chatan is tasked with separating Ananta from the earth by destroying it. He does so by assuming his full sura form and destroying the ground beneath Ananta. However, Ananta reacts incredibly quickly and lands an attack on Chatan, causing him to break apart and collapse into the water.

(30) As Ran becomes controlled by the ancient humans, he directs his anger toward Airavata. Before he can attack her, Chatan intervenes, separating the two and protecting his mother. Unfortunately, Ran is able to freeze him with ease. Before Ran can kill him, Shess arrives in human form and begs for his brother’s life. They are saved when Airavata uses a mental transcendental to redirect Ran toward Indra instead. Chatan, unconscious, is taken to safety and healed by his mother.
