Chandra recounts the cataclysmic war, when entire galaxies disappeared and the universe itself stood at risk
The Cataclysm, also known as the N0 Cataclysm or the Upheaval (early LINE Webtoons) occurred in the year D1000 (which changed into the year N0 after the event) and was named such because of a series of disastrous events: the disappearance of primeval gods Vishnu and Shiva; the destruction of various planets and galaxies during an interdimensional war involving gods, suras, and humans;[1] the expulsion of superior suras to their realm by gods, never to return; and the weakening of the bonds between gods and humans. Only inferior suras and some created gods (such as planetary gods) could remain in the human realm.
The Cataclysm isolated the human realm from sura realm and god realms to make travel between them very difficult. It had far-reaching side effects, such as confiscating the power of superior suras in human realm, weakening certain clans that depended on human realm's lush environments to grow their children (such as the Gandharva clan), and severely reducing the success rate of summoning gods to other realms (Idha Etu magic), as well as the amount of power that humans could borrow from gods.
Some say that the disappearance of Vishnu and Shiva caused the Cataclysm; some others say that their disappearance was the Cataclysm itself.[2] The consequences were as disastrous as they were universe-wide: the races were separated by Vishnu into three existing realms, ending the war in humans' favor, but many pure-blood humans and quarters still suffered because of Emotional Resonance that made all half-blood humans in every planet go mad and turn against their own friends, relatives, and lovers.[3] As a result, the halfs ended up being discriminated against and treated like slaves, sold, and killed for the consumption of their body parts without any remorse from humans.
The Cataclysm critically empowered the Taraka clan, as it made the other weakened sura clans unable to oppose them effectively. Many weakened clans' suras were consumed by Taraka clan when their territories were eventually invaded, further strengthening Taraka numbers that enabled them to challenge stronger clans. The Gandharva clan was driven almost to extinction due to Taraka encroachment and a lack of oceans, which were not in abundance in the sura realm compared to the human realm, when gods such as Varuna refused to cooperate in making them. Newly born Gandharva suras suffered greatly in the sura realm's high-gravity environments without an ocean to swim in, such as Shakuntala, stunting their growth.[4] She was eventually consumed by a Taraka sura when her clan fell apart.
Notes
- The Cataclysm began on a still-unnamed planet. Currygom stated that it was a different planet from Willarv, Carte, Isholy, and Konchez.[5] --> Update: The Cataclysm began on Taitalika.[6]
- The suras received the worst of the three realms, with a poisonous atmosphere and constant inter-clan struggles for survival and power. This environment is particularly harsh to the Gandharva clan.[4]
- N0 is also the year of Kubera Leez's birth.
